Parents

Parental education and involvement are often the keys to fighting the problem of alcohol and other drugs in our community. It is a problem that exists in every city in America – and Jefferson City is no exception.

Alcohol is the drug of choice among Jefferson City teenagers. Nights and weekends at their own home, at a friend’s house or in cars are times when alcohol is most frequently abused. Driving accidents are the leading cause of death for teens and in over 18 percent of the fatal crashes, the young driver’s drinking condition contributed to the cause of the crash.

Alcohol abuse is viewed by many parents as less serious than other drug abuse; therefore, alcohol use is much more widely accepted.

The younger a child begins to use alcohol and other drugs, the quicker and greater the harm and addiction.
